Products and Services

Here in Swarthmore, we sell green salsa fresca, pico de gallo, guacamole, and corn chips from Taste of Puebla.  Although Taste of Puebla is sold in more than a dozen places in the greater Philadelphia area, it’s one of those amazing niche brands that, currently, you can only get at small grocers like the Swarthmore Co-Op and specific farmer’s markets.

History

After 25 successful years in the Kennett Square mushroom industry, Mariana and Cristobal Castañeda established Taste of Puebla in 2010 to bring the authentic flavors of Puebla, Mexico to people here in Pennsylvania.  (Fun fact: Puebla is the fourth-largest city in Mexico, with a population slightly larger than Philadelphia!)

Mariana and Cristobal started selling their delicious salsa and guacamole at the local farmer’s market and opened a small restaurant as well—and when the local community learned about the restaurant, they quickly outgrew that original space.  With that great success, they upgraded to a larger restaurant space in Kennett Square in 2013 and spent three years serving the community there.  In 2016, when restaurant hours became too demanding for the family, the company rebranded to focus on catering services and wholesale.

Sustainability

In Kennett Square, Taste of Puebla is headquartered about 25 miles away from Swarthmore.  As always, we love to support local Pennsylvania businesses, keeping dollars in our local economy and keeping our carbon footprints a bit smaller.
