The Swarthmore Co-op is a one-of-a-kind, award-winning specialty market in Delaware County looking for  part-time Specialty Foods team members.  We focus on local, organic, and sustainable foods and promoting healthy lifestyles to our community, and we offer a friendly, progressive work environment.  

What is your role?

The Co-op is known for its high-quality Specialty Foods Department which offers an impressive range of internationally-sourced gourmet cheeses and meats, locally-sourced sweet treats, and a variety of other gourmet foods. In addition, our Specialty team members are involved in custom gift baskets and other specialty gift-items. We need team members who are strongly customer focused to handle our demanding marketplace. You’ll be trained by a knowledgeable supervisor, and you’ll provide our shoppers with information and recommendations about products that meet their individual needs and tastes.

What we need from you —

  • Become knowledgeable about Specialty products including cheeses, a selection of local sweets and bakery items, and other gourmet foods.
  • Learn to package, price, and promote goods from local food artisans and vendors for the retail floor.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable advisor to Co-op customers seeking specialty products.
  • Maintain a food-safe workspace, and a sense of store energy by taking initiative to do what’s needed.
  • Demonstrate reliability and professionalism in your work habits, appearance, and customer interactions.

What You Offer in Skills and Qualifications —

  • You have 20-25 hours to work during the week and on weekends (we can accommodate college students). Part-time to full-time opportunities may be available depending on background.
  • You have some knowledge or training in gourmet or specialty foods (strongly preferred, but not required).
  • You can maintain a positive, can-do attitude with customers, despite daily pressures.
  • You are comfortable with technology including email, Word, and databases.
  • You are at least 18 years of age (prefer 21), are physically able to stand, move and lift for periods of up to 4 hours, and have a high-school diploma at minimum, or GED.
